4 New Faces and a Very Special Blog!

Oh how the dust has been flying this summer at the farm. Not from lack of rain, rather from scrubbing out 20 years of accumulation! Our spring cleaning has carried over into the summer as it has spread to clearing out all the buildings here on our property. In the beginning, it was a light hearted joke that the piles grew over night, but we are not laughing anymore. I think they really are! The goblins are sprinkling their mischief dust on our junk piles and it seems they are twice as large in the morning...

Out from the midst of the dust have emerged four little faces...pictured here as raw sculpts. Sculpted in the evening as the sun sets (...in between washing dirt covered farm children and dinner dishes). Next, I will sand the faces, sculpt them with a tiny blade if necessary, and wash their skin carefully with acetone. The fine tuning. For some reason, I have to see the faces baked before the imperfections and irregularities are evident. I love them already...

My husband has been diligently working to create a special space for my studio. It is a true artist's nesting place. A cozy little room he built almost from scratch for me to contentedly mingle with faeries and elves and those sorts of friends. With enough room for my daughters to work on their own flights of imagination. I am almost moved in and can hardly wait to begin work in earnest on several new projects pateintly in waiting.

and...

I would like to share with you a bit of exciting family news...

My daughter Tomi has just published an artist Blog!

Photobucket

Tomi is my oldest daughter and she has been selling her original hand crafted bears on b.b.flockling with me since 2006. She taught herself to crochet and began making wee thread bears. Her bear making took off like a rocket! I was constantly in awe at the big, cuddly personalities she was able to put into such tiny crocheted bears.

Drawing from this bearish passion, this January Tomi began designing patterns for larger sewn bears...

Beautiful...

A combination of mohair, glass eyes, needle felting and altered vintage clothes, brought these wondrous woodland creatures to life...

And wise old Gentlemen Bears...

You just never know who you might meet wandering in from the Bramblewoods.

She also tenderly weaves fairy tales into the fabric of her art.

Please take a stroll down the peaceful path of Tomi's blog. I would just love it if you would consider dropping her a friendly a note and welcome her new blog!

Faerie Carmen and the Moon Queen

The Lunar family is now complete.

Photobucket

Carmen is the Queen's daughter who is always available to share in her confidences.

The Queen loves all three of her faerie daughters with the same devotion, but each has their own special royal quality. Carmen's faithfulness as loyal confidante keeps her ever close to the Queen.

Carmen can be entrusted to keep, and protect the Queen's innermost thoughts. A coveted gift to have in a friend and a daughter.

I extend my profound gratitude to Joy who afforded me this opportunity to undertake such an extensive work. This piece has taught me so many valuable lessons along the way. To slow down and to make the complex simple by concentrating on one step at a time. To freely allow one step to flow into the next. And to thoroughly enjoy each component's creation as an individual entity before they are joined to one another as a whole.

The Moon Family will be traveling home to a special display case being built just for them. In one very real sense, it will be painful saying goodbye, knowing I will never see them again. But on the other hand, I am brimming with excitement for them to be united with the one who truly initiated their creation. Thank you, Joy.

Moon King, Lady Katherine and Nin

Photobucket

The rain is falling steadily outside my window this morning. Subsequently, all my children are spending their Sunday inside today.

Rain does not, however, dampen their exuberance or their limitless energy. Already this morning the living room has been entirely transformed into a city of tents. Couch pillows serve as wobbly walls, quilts are transformed into colorful roofs and child-like imagination fills the rooms.

Photobucket

While they are all duly distracted with their building projet, I thought this might be an opportune time to quietly (off to the sidelines) gather my thoughts and present the Moon King and his two children to you. As you can see, they are not bothered in the least by what is going on in the midst of our house, their miniature universe.

Photobucket

All seven of the Celestial family are now complete. This has been quite an endeavor of love and I am pleased with their outcome. Today I would like to introduce you to the King and to his lunar children, Lady Katherine and Nin as they are finally settled in together.

Photobucket

Lady Katherine leans in thoughtful observation while Nin rests her head affectionately on her sister's shoulder. Her arm rests on Katherine's wrist, a sign she will faithfully be at her sister's side in word and deed.
The Moon King is their silent, steady security.

Photobucket

Together, they stand 16 inches. The Moon is mounted on a candlestick I whitewashed and filled with a cloud of soft white wool for him to float upon.
Very soon I will post portraits of the Queen and faerie Carmen.
Then, off they will fly to their new home. How exciting!

Thank you for meeting the King, the Lady and Nin...Rose

Celestial Embrace

Photobucket

Sweet companionship
Sweet peace

Photobucket

In shining Harmony they brighten the darkened sky

Casting a far reaching light that reaches beneath earthen doors,
through shuttered windows
and into the most vaulted of Hearts...

Chasing away the lonely night Shadows
with a Celestial comfort that reaches up to the Morning...

And assures the Lonely that they are really not Alone.
